Uniform Medical Plan (UMP) is a great plan for people who want the freedom to choose their own providers without having to get a referral or approval from their health plan. With UMP, you can choose from any of 20,000 network providers in Washington State, and have access to a national network of providers for your care. You also can see non-network providers, though you will pay more out of your pocket if you do.
Check the UMP provider directory to see if your current providers are in the network. If you travel or live out of state, visit the Beech Street Network directory to find network providers. UMP even covers you when you're out-of-the country.
Browse the UMP Summary of Benefits to see what's covered, as well as the exclusions to see what isn't covered. For all the details, check the UMP 2009 Certificate of Coverage. You'll find that UMP's coverage is similar to the benefits offered by all PEBB plans, but with fewer hoops to jump through to get the care you need.
UMP's monthly premiums are among the lowest of all plans offered through the Public Employees Benefits Board. To get an estimate of what your total out-of-pocket costs would be, read "How Much Will I Pay?"
The UMP Preferred Drug List is an "open formulary," which means most drugs are covered. You'll get the best price when you choose generic drugs (Tier 1) or preferred brand-name drugs (Tier 2), but we also cover drugs that are not nonpreferred (Tier 3). Use our "prescription price check" tool to see what your out-of-pocket costs would be for your prescriptions.
Our pharmacy network includes most pharmacies in Washington, as well as pharmacy chains throughout the United State. Use our pharmacy locator to find a network pharmacy near you. We also offer a convenient mail order pharmacy service from Wellpartner. See our prescription drug page for more information.
UMP provides great benefits for preventive care, which is free when you see a network provider. You can also earn an annual incentive for participating in our Health Counts wellness program. Smokers get help at no charge when they enroll in the Free & Clear tobacco cessation program.
In a recent customer survey of all health plans offered through PEBB, UMP ranked #1 for getting needed care, customer service, rating of health care, and overall rating of health plan. UMP also rated significantly above a national average of 168 PPO plans for its customer service and overall health plan rating.
